III. SULFUR FRACTIONAL ANALYSIS OF GAS AND LIQUID
HYDROCARBONS
|
Note:
Due to the reactive nature of Sulfurous Compounds, in both gas and
liquid hydrocarbons, it is preferable to obtain these samples in either,
Treated Stainless or Teflon Lined sampling cylinders, to prevent the
possible passivation of Sulfur Compounds, such as Hydrogen Sulfide, into
the metal walls. Recent studies by our Lab indicate Sulfur Compounds like
H2S and Mercaptans can be absorbed through passivation, which begins
almost immediately in Stainless Steel and most untreated metals. Within 1
hour of sampling, 95% of the Hydrogen Sulfide was passivated into the
metal walls of the cylinders. Treated Stainless (Sulfinert) and Teflon
lined cylinders held 99% of all sulfurs, for two weeks or more without
passivation. Although Mercaptans and Disulfides are usually slow to
passivate in cylinders, our study shows that 95% of these Sulfurs will
passivate within 24 Hours, in standard metal cylinders.
Our
Laboratory maintains a large stock of Sulfinert and Teflon Lined sampling
cylinders, both sale and use, for our customers. If you are attempting to
sample gases or liquids for Treater designs, or analytical testing, please
contact our Laboratory prior to sampling. We will be glad to assist you
with sampling procedures, or Teflon lined cylinders and cases, to assure
quality results. |
A.)
SULFUR FRACTIONAL ANALYSIS OF GASEOUS OR LIQUID
HYDROCARBONS
Utilizing a
Sievers Model 355 Sulfur Chemiluminescence Chromatograph, our laboratory
can speciate and quantitate all Sulfur Compounds, down to a 10 part per
billion level quickly and accurately. Listed are Carbonyl Sulfide,
Hydrogen Sulfide, Carbon Disulfide, Dimethyl Sulfide, Dimethyl Disulfide,
Sulfur Dioxide, and a complete distribution of Mercaptans and Thiophenes.
This instrument allows a complete analysis of all Sulfur Compounds in
both, Gases and Liquids, in about 30 minutes.
The basic
theory of operation is based on the chemiluminescence (light producing
reaction) from the reaction of Ozone with Sulfur Monoxide (SO) produced
from combustion of the analyte tested. A vacuum pump pulls the combustion
products into a reaction cell at low pressure, where excess Ozone is
added. Light produced from the subsequent reaction is detected with a
blue-sensitive photomultiplier tube.
| The Extended Sulfur Fractional Analyses listed below for Gas and Liquid samples includes analysis of the following Sulfur Compounds: |
|
| |
|
| Hydrogen Sulfide, Methyl Mercaptain, Thiophenes, Carbonyl Sulfide, Ethyl Mercaptan, Methyl Mercaptan, Carbon Disulfide, Propyl Mercaptans, Benzothiophene, Dinethyl Sulfide, Butyl Mercaptans, Methylbenzothiopenes, Dimethyl Disulfide, Pentyl & Heavier, Dimethylbenzothiopenes |

sample |
$165.00 |
B.) AROMATIC ANALYSIS OF PRESSURIZED LIQUIDS AND CONDENSATES.
Both, high pressure and
atmospherically flashed tank liquids can be analyzed for the Aromatic
constituents, using Flame Ionization Chromatography. The analysis includes
the determination and quantification of Benzene, Ethylbenzene, Toluene,
and Xylenes, in Butanes, NGLs, Condensates, Gasolines, and Oil samples.
