I. Routine Hydrocarbon Analysis of Gases and Pressurized Liquids

A.) Hydrocarbon Fractional Analysis of Gases

The gas fractional analysis includes the separation and the quantification of Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and Methane to through Hexanes (C6+) plus hydrocarbons.  The calculations provided with each sample include the Specific Gravity, BTU’s (dry & wet basis), Ideal Gross Heating Value, Gallons per Thousand (GPM), Average Molecular Weight, Molar Mass Ratio, Compressibility Factor, and Relative Density. 

All analyses are performed in accordance to GPA 2261 methodology.

B.)  Pressurized Liquid Hydrocarbon Fractional Analyses

This analysis, which is applicable to Liquified Ethane, Propane, Butanes, NGLs, Condensates and Drip Liquids, includes the separation and quantification of Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and Methane through Heptane (C7+) plus hydrocarbons.  Calculations provided with this analysis includes Mole Percent, Weight Percent, and

Liquid Volume Percentage Distributions. Also inclusive is the Specific Gravity, Average Molecular Weight, and True Vapor Pressure (calculated), Lbs/Gallon, and Cubic Feet gas/Gallon of Liquid.

 

All analysis performed in accordance to GPA 2177 Methodology.  Sampling of Hydrocarbon Liquids submitted for analysis must conform to the methods outlined in GPA-2174-96, using Piston Cylinders, or Water Displacement. II. Extended Hydrocarbon Analysis of Gases and Pressurized Liquids

 

A.) EXTENDED HYDROCARBON FRACTIONAL ANALYSIS OF GASES

If requested, the analysis can be detailed out to the Eicosane (C20+) plus range. The calculations provided with each analysis include the Specific Gravity, BTU's (dry & wet basis), Ideal Gross Heating Value, Gallons per Thousand (GPM), Average Molecular Weight, Molar Mass Ratio, Relative Density, and Compressibility Factor (Z).

All analysis are performed in accordance to GPA 2286 Methodology.

This Extended analysis, which is applicable to NGLs, Condensates, Drips, and Oil samples, includes the separation and quantification of Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and Methane to Decane (C10+) plus, or, Eicosane (C20+) plus Hydrocarbons.  Calculations provided with this analysis include Mole Percent, Weight Percent, and Liquid

Volume Percentage distributions. Additional calculations include the Specific Gravity, Average Molecular Weight, Average Boiling Point (F), True Vapor Pressure, and the Density of the C10+ fraction. Aromatics (BETX) analyses may be added for an additional fee. Please see accompanying section (IV) for price details regarding Aromatics

All analysis performed in accordance to GPA 2186 Methodology. All samples should be taken by GPA 2174.  Pressurized Hydrocarbon Liquids should be taken by Piston Cylinder or Water Displacement Method. III. Sulfur Fractional Analysis of Gas and Liquid Hydrocarbons

NOTE:   DUE TO THE REACTIVE NATURE OF SULFUROUS COMPOUNDS, IT IS PREFERABLE TO OBTAIN ALL GAS OR LIQUID SAMPLES IN EITHER TEFLON LINED OR TREATED STAINLESS STEEL CYLINDERS. THESE SAMPLE CYLINDERS ARE DESIGNED TO PREVENT PASSIVATION OF COMPOUNDS, SUCH AS HYDROGEN SULFIDE AND MERCAPTANS, DURING STORAGE AND SHIPMENT.  PASSIVATION IS THE REACTIVITY OF VARIOUS SULFUR COMPOUNDS TO METALS, SUCH AS CARBON OR STAINLESS STEEL. USING TEFLON LINED OR TREATED STAINLESS INHIBITS THE REACTION OF THESE SULFUR COMPOUNDS TO METAL SURFACES, ALLOWING SAMPLES TO BE STORED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME.   OUR STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT 95% OR MORE OF HYDROGEN SULFIDE WILL BE PASSIVATED, OR ABSORBED, INTO THE METAL WALLS OF CARBON OR STAINLESS STEEL CYLINDERS WITHIN MINUTES.  WHEN SAMPLING AND SHIPPING SAMPLES FOR SULFUR ANALYSIS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO RETURN YOUR SAMPLES BY THE QUICKEST METHOD POSSIBLE. WE RECOMMEND OVERNIGHT AIR FREIGHT.  THIS ANALYSIS IS TIME SENSITIVE FOR THE MOST ACCURATE RESULTS. SULFUR COMPOUNDS CAN BEGIN PASSIVATING, REGARDLESS OF CYLINDER TYPE, WHEN STORED OVER EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME.  THIS USUALLY RESULTS IN SAMPLE DATA REPORTING CONCENTRATIONS LESS THAN EXPECTED.  WE RECOMMEND TESTING GAS AND LIQUIDS WITHIN 24 HOURS OF SAMPLING, IF POSSIBLE.  PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT THE LAB IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING SULFUR SAMPLING AND TESTING.  WE WILL BE GLAD TO ASSIST YOU AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER SAMPLE CONTAINERS FOR THE JOB YOU ARE PREPARING.
